Responsible Tourism

The APT Group is focused on achieving best practice in economic, social and environmental responsibility.
In conducting our operations, we strive to minimise our impact on the environment, spread benefits throughout the local economies in Australia and internationally, as well as directly promote and support community wellbeing.

Our Indigenous Partnerships

APT's current and increasing touring activities in Kakadu and Western Arnhem Land are in partnership with Djabulukgu Association Inc. This Indigenous association represents the interests of Traditional Owners in Northern Kakadu and parts of Western Arnhem Land. APT's Kimberley Wilderness Adventures has been in partnership with Wunan for many years. This organisation represents the interests of East Kimberley Aboriginal people.

Through these partnerships, APT can offer unique experiences and exclusive products in special places in the Kimberley, Kakadu and Western Arnhem Land. Both the Djabulukgu Association Inc. and Wunan are committed to community development. Through joint ventures with APT, employment and training opportunities are made available, which provides socio-economic benefits for many Aboriginal communities. This creates a win/win situation for both the Australian tourism industry and local communities. Other significant benefits include partnerships to build sustainable business practices.

Community Support

APT, its staff and the McGeary family are dedicated to helping local communities and the less fortunate. Significant contributions have been made to the Red Cross, the Challenge Program for Kids with Cancer,
the Royal Children's Hospital, an orphanage in Cambodia, the Country Fire Authority, Breast Cancer charities, Canteen and others. Geoff McGeary was also named Bayside 2007 Citizen of the Year for his support of the local community. We understand the value of community and our people are proud to make a difference.

Climate Change

APT is acutely aware of the damaging effects of climate change on the environment. APT has its own modern fleet of transport vehicles that are designed to minimise emissions in the most practical way. Our offices, wilderness lodges and other infrastructure already adopt a range of practices to minimise emissions, including the use of solar power, reduced energy usage, recycling and other initiatives.

Advanced Ecotourism Certification / Accredited Tourism Business

APT is fully committed to ecologically sustainable tourism with a focus on experiencing natural areas, while fostering environmental and cultural understanding, appreciation and conservation.

Our KWA lodges, camps and adventure touring operations are eco-certified at the highest level. We are proud to be one of the few tour operators with Advanced Ecotourism certification, which officially recognises the outstanding economically, environmentally and socially sustainable practices we adopt. Also boasting Eco-certified Tourism accreditation is APT's exclusive Kings Canyon Wilderness Lodge in the Northern Territory.

APT has also received Respecting Our Culture (ROC) endorsement. This program uniquely acknowledges APT's cultural protocols and authenticity, as well as our sustainable business and environmental practices.
Further, APT is an Accredited Tourism Business having met the requirements of the National Tourism Accreditation Standard.

Our aim is to foster an ongoing environment of support for our people, to provide them rewarding careers and to ultimately assist in them meeting their personal and family goals.
